HUMAN TRAFFICKING AND MODERN SLAVERY STATEMENT
Introduction
Harbour Ayrshire is committed to preventing all forms of human trafficking and modern slavery within our organisation, our supply chains, and the communities we serve. We uphold the principles of fairness, respect, and human dignity, and we take our responsibility seriously to identify and address any risks of exploitation.
Our Commitment
We have zero tolerance for human trafficking, slavery, servitude, or forced or compulsory labour. Harbour Ayrshire is dedicated to operating in an ethical and transparent manner, ensuring that everyone we engage with—whether employees, volunteers, suppliers, or supported individuals—is treated with dignity and respect.
Our Organisation
Harbour Ayrshire is a trauma-informed charity based in Ayrshire, supporting individuals affected by addiction, homelessness, and social exclusion. Our operations include outreach, peer support, and community-based programmes. Due to the nature of our work, we recognise that some of the people we support may be particularly vulnerable to exploitation, and we work closely with statutory and third-sector partners to safeguard them.
Policies and Procedures
To help prevent modern slavery and human trafficking, Harbour Ayrshire has in place:
Safe recruitment practices including identity checks and references for all staff and volunteers.
Safeguarding policies to protect vulnerable adults and children from abuse or exploitation.
Whistleblowing procedures that allow concerns about unethical or illegal behaviour to be raised confidentially.
Partnership working with local authorities, the police, and other agencies to identify and report any suspected cases of trafficking or exploitation.
Training and Awareness
All staff and volunteers receive training in trauma-informed practice and safeguarding, which includes awareness of human trafficking and exploitation. We ensure that anyone working with vulnerable individuals understands how to recognise warning signs and report concerns appropriately.
Reporting Concerns
If any member of staff, volunteer, or supported person suspects human trafficking or modern slavery, they must report it immediately to a manager or Trustee. Harbour Ayrshire will respond promptly, involve appropriate authorities, and take all necessary actions to ensure safety and compliance.
Continuous Improvement
We are committed to continually reviewing and strengthening our procedures to ensure that our practices remain effective in preventing human trafficking and modern slavery.
Approval
This statement has been approved by the management of Harbour Ayrshire and will be reviewed annually.
